The Democratic Alliance in the KwaZulu-Natal legislature has called for the disbanding of two provincial government departments – the department of public works and sports and recreation. The call comes just hours before the provincial finance MEC Ina Cronje announces her provincial budget today in Pietermaritzburg.

Wealthy businessman Sandile Zungu will this week be named as head of President Jacob Zuma’s office in the Union Buildings.

The Sunday Times has established that Zuma spoke to Zungu personally to offer him the post of director-general in the presidency, now held by the Rev Frank Chikane.

The Congress of the People's (COPE) presidential candidate Dr Mvume Dandala has called on South Africans to vote for his party because it has the moral vision and the will to fight corruption.

The City of Cape Town is to spend more than R10 million over the next two years on setting up a unit of specialised drug-sniffing dogs. The city already has its own "Drug Busters" narcotics unit. Properly trained dogs would help the unit to work more efficiently by quickly tracking down illegal substances, unit spokesman councillor Glen Kleinsmith said on Tuesday.
