A Klerksdorp man is raising funds for disabled scholars by spending just over two months in a wine barrel in Hartbeespoort Dam.

Dirkie van Zyl is raising money for the Meerhof School for physically challenged children and those with learning problems.

He is isolating himself for 69 days in a wine barrel on top of a 25m pole.

Van zyl has already been in the barrel for eight days and food and water are being sent up to him via a bucket.

He said he would only come down on New Year’s Day.

“I am just putting myself in a space that they are living in their whole lives. I will put myself in here for 69 days so that the people can understand what is going on in their world,” he said.
