   15 October 2009 | Number of Views: 860

DAN TISCH and KATHRYN WORTSMAN exemplify the qualities of a new kind of professional - the Venture Philanthropist. They are two of the founding members of Social Venture Partners Toronto, a group of 43 successful professionals who commit their time, money and expertise to not-for-profits. This year their goal is to focus on poverty reduction. Here's how it works. They solicit bids for business proposals from not-for-profit and charity organizations who meet their criteria. Each member donates $5,000 every year and that pool of money goes a long way and makes a big impact. The winning organizations get funding up to $75,000 over three years, along with invaluable business mentoring from the experienced team of Social Venture Partners.
